Harrisville Shetland Style Yarn - 2 ply fine: Available in 56 colors on 1/2 pound (8oz.) cones, approximately 900 yards. This yarn is made from Merino and a Merino cross-breed wool fiber mix from Australia and New Zealand.
Fabric Characteristics at suggested setts for weavers 10 e.p.i. Creates light and lofty fabrics after being fulled. Great for baby blanket weight fabrics and color blankets. 12 e.p.i. A good overall sett for this yarn for weaving many types of fabrics. Good for general clothing weight fabrics. Creates a light yet firmly constructed fabric. 15 e.p.i. Ideal for sturdy twill weight fabrics. Can be hard to achieve a true 50/50 plain weave without a very hard beat unless you use a finer weight weft yarn. Good for upholstery type fabric structures. For hand and machine knitters: Use as is, allowing for fulling or skein and wash gently before using. Use in patterns calling for Harrisville's New England Knitters Yarn as it is Harrisville's Shetland style 2 ply fine yarn (described above) that has been washed in the skein to give it a special, soft knitting finish. Also in stock are two more lines of yarn from Harrisville Designs:
Both Orchid yarns and the Flax & Wool yarns knit at the same gauge and can be easily combined or interchanged for even more color variety. Knitters Note: Orchid with Cashmere is approximately 240 yards per 3.5 ounce (100 gram) skein. Needle range US 5 - 8. Recommended Gauge: 4 - 4 1/2 stitches per inch. The Flax & Wool Yarns can be substituted for Orchid if you are using Harrisville patterns also available at Shuttleworks. Although these two yarns have a knitting focus; weavers and felters with a sense of adventure can also use them in a variety of ways. |
